The Jetty that built a town

Though currently closed, the One Mile Jetty remains a treasured symbol of Carnarvon’s identity. Built in 1898, it once served as the town’s lifeline—transporting wool, livestock, bananas and beans as well as residents and visitors from the Gascoyne to the rest of the world.

The seaward section of the jetty was blown away by Cyclone Seroja in April 2021.  The WA Government has set aside $4.5 million to refurbish and open the remaining approx 650ms of the jetty. Visitors can view the jetty remains and learn its full story in the One Mile Jetty Museum.
