Preserving the Past, Inspiring the Future
About the Precinct
The One Mile Jetty Precinct is more than a collection of museums – it’s a living tribute to Carnarvon’s rich and resilient history. Located on Babbage Island, the precinct showcases the stories, industries, and people that helped shape the Gascoyne region, from early pastoral settlement to coastal trade, rail transport, and wartime encounters.
Visitors can explore restored locomotives, walk through original buildings, and discover powerful stories of resilience and connection to the sea.
Who we are
The precinct is operated by the Carnarvon Heritage Group Inc (CHG) – a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity dedicated to preserving and sharing the region’s heritage. Formed by passionate volunteers and supported by local, state, and federal initiatives, the group has spent decades collecting, restoring and presenting key pieces of Carnarvon’s past.
Through exhibitions, restoration projects, and ongoing community efforts, CHG aims to keep the spirit of the precinct alive – not just as a museum, but as a place of education, reflection and discovery for generations to come.
